〈모두의 의자〉는 민주주의의 원리를 건축적 구조로 구현한 시민참여형 설치 작품입니다. 거대한 의자가 300개의 작은 의자 위에 떠받쳐진 구조는 ‘국민이 곧 국가의 근본’이라는 민주주의 원칙을 직관적으로 드러냅니다. 축제 현장 곳곳에 배치된 100개의 스툴은 관객이 자유롭게 옮기고 앉을 수 있으며, 작품의 완성은 시민의 참여 속에서 이루어집니다. 이는 권력과 개인, 자유와 책임, 참여와 신뢰라는 민주주의 가치가 공동체의 실천을 통해 가능하다는 점을 상징합니다. 또한 기존 작품을 해체해 재료로 활용한 과정은 환경적 실천이자 서사를 잇는 창작 행위로, 예술이 사회적 가치를 비추는 거울이 될 수 있음을 보여줍니다.
<The Chair of the People> is a participatory installation artwork that materializes the principles of democracy through its architectural form. The massive chair, upheld by three hundred smaller ones, intuitively portrays the democratic ideal that “the people are the foundation of the nation.” One hundred stools are distributed across the festival grounds and can be freely moved and used by visitors. In this way, the work is completed through citizen participation. This symbolizes that the values of democracy—such as the relationship between power and the individual, freedom and responsibility, participation and trust—can only be realized through collective action within the community. In addition, the process of dismantling a previous work and reusing its materials is both an environmental act and a creative practice that extends the narrative, demonstrating how art can reflect the social values of our time.
