The artwork consists of caterpillars and eggs made of glass. The egg itself represents pure potential of the egg's possibility of transformation into butterflies. The mint color of the glass is not derived from nature but is an artificial hue mixed with white, expressing the caterpillar’s earnest struggle to break free from its shell and soar into the sky.
Selected through the Nowon Artists Contest, artist Kim Yeonjin created this community art project in collaboration with members and families of the Nowon Community Addiction Management Center. In front of flames exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius, they melted glass and breathed life into it, forming the caterpillars and eggs destined to become butterflies. These eggs, infused with the breath and hope of living beings, sparkle endlessly beneath the night sky.
